From the 1930s through the 1950s, Patek Philippe produced a number of watch references with unusual and charismatic case designs. Often in a rectangular-shaped case featuring the caliber 9-90, these references are highly sought after today by collectors for their unique and varied case details.

In 1948, the company launched the reference 2441, which became known as the “Eiffel Tower” due to its distinctive flared sides which resemble the base of the tower. Production of reference 2441 ended in 1955, with only an estimated 150-200 pieces being produced in total for this reference, the majority cased in yellow gold.

In 1997, Patek Philippe produced the limited edition reference 5500 known as the “Pagoda” to commemorate the opening of a new watchmaking center in Geneva. The Pagoda model is clearly inspired by the design of the 2441, but with a contemporary feel.

The present watch is a beautiful, NOS example of the original reference 2441, with extremely sharp facets and satin-finished case sides. Each lug base features three sides with beveled edges, a design element that could easily go unnoticed but adds to the level of attention that Patek Philippe gives to each watch design. It truly is a rarity to find a vintage Patek Philippe watch in the same condition from which it left the factory over 60 years ago, and will certainly be appreciated by discerning collectors.
